Art is in the mouth of the beholder

Isn't it fascinating what a love-hate relationship we have with the human mouth? The sounds that come from it can stir us to action,  lull us to sleep, encourage, cajole, hector us; frighten the living daylights out of us; or sometimes even bore us sh*tless. Here on the coming pages I have assembled a few photos of people both famous and completely nondescript but the one thing they have in common is a big mouth, sometimes giving out roars of command, screeches of rage, wise words of advice or even hard, jaw-cracking yawns. Some of them are completely un-retouched (see the first photo of 'Tony'  and Cherie Blair it's a beauty! The photo that is, not Cherie of course) but I have to confess to have taken a liberty or two with several of the others, aided by my trusty Photoshop program.

I haven't set out to produce timeless works of art that will hang in the Louvre or the British Museum for generations to come, to be wondered at by awe-struck hicks sucking on their ice-creams and uttering shrill cries of "s'orrible innit!" or Shopenhauer-worshipping pseuds muttering into their beards about the artist's persipacity and visional depth;  oh dear no, I did it for the best of all possible reasons.

It gave me a laugh. I hope it does the same for you, too.
